I've successfully completed a 5.1 remote kit with the following facilities. It uses Microcontroller STC12C5A60S2 and R2S15902FP/ PT2351 chips. The main facility in this Remote kit is any settings including input gainer, output gainer and splash screen can be changed even after programming the Micro controller chip.

One unique feature of this R2S15902FP is it process the stereo signal into surround sound (Matrix decoding ) as mentioned in the picture below.
This kit was designed to be used with low cost Chinese MP3 market boards as mentioned below.
Follow the step by step instructions to connect the MP3 Board.
First, remove the front panel of MP3 decoder board.
Then cut the first pin of Infrared sensor ( TSOP38238 ) as shown in the picture.
Make connections as shown in picture below and ensure that the pin's don't touch each other.

Now we can access the complete functions of MP3 boards from this kit's remote control like
